eCommerce Tip #158: Without Adding Friction, Always Recommend Upsell Products Before Checkout

Before the checkout, make sure to offer your customer an upsell option.

Carefully select the products to recommend for upselling. Then, motivate your customer to spend the additional dollars, e.g., by throwing in a free shipping gift if they purchase now.

If you don’t have any upsell products, consider offering maintenance or an extended warranty.

The challenge is to find the right balance between promoting your upsell products and not adding too much friction to the checkout process.

If you succeed your AOV (Average Order Value) will go up!
